Canada's women's soccer team - unplugged (with Rick Mercer)

Canada's women's soccer team, who have already developed a following, will be the easiest team ever to get behind when FIFA's women's World Cup hits six cities across the country in 2015.

Because they're just fun.

In a world of pro athletes who can be overcautious, uncommunicative, image-conscious and sometimes just plain surly, look at what great sports the women were when the CBC's Rick Mercer paid them a visit.

Also: well-spoken, funny, and humble.

They're not perfect; Karina Leblanc's singing, for example, needs a little work.

The draw for the women's event will take place Dec. 6 at the Canadian Museum of Natural History in Ottawa.

The 23 qualifying nations, plus host Canada, will be drawn into six pools of four teams. The first- and second-place finishers, plus the four teams among the rest with the best records, will advance to the round of 16.

Matches will take place in Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Vancouver from June 6 - July 5, 2015. Opening ceremonies will be in Edmonton; the final will be played in Vancouver.

The official mascot, named Shuéme, the young female Great White Owl, will be an acquired taste. But her mascara is on point.
