A look at the Ticats’ rain-drenched Guelph opener through photos and tweets

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats' first regular-season game in Guelph Sunday (where they'll be playing all their home games this year thanks to the demolition and rebuilding of Ivor Wynne Stadium) certainly didn't go as well as they would have hoped, as the Edmonton Eskimos beat them 30-20 in a torrential downpour. That downpour made for some rather unique moments, though: while Canadian football's long been known for weather playing a significant role, and the Tiger-Cats were involved in an even weirder snow game in Calgary last year, unusual weather conditions usually kick in towards the tail end of the CFL season, rather than in July. Here are a selection of photos showing the severity of the weather Sunday:

And some tweets showing what it was like there:

The Tiger-Cats' fans in attendance didn't have a lot to cheer about in the end, as their team was ineffective on both offence and defence, eventually losing by 10 points to an Eskimos team that looked quite weak in their last contest. Still, they were at one of the most unusual July games the CFL has seen. That may not help get you any drier, but at least it might provide some interesting memories...
