Darian Durant encourages fans to donate to Geroy Simon’s charity, not his fine

Saskatchewan quarterback Darian Durant offended some by swearing on Twitter at a fan who provoked him earlier this week, but he's impressing many with how he's handled being fined for that indiscretion. Plenty of Roughriders' fans defended Durant over that, citing the intense criticism he's often taken on Twitter, and some even offered to help pay his fine. While that would certainly be nice for Durant's pocketbook, he's opted to go in a more lofty direction, encouraging fans to donate to teammate Geroy Simon's Coats For Kids charity efforts instead. From Durant's website:

I've received a lot messages from Rider fans wanting to donate to pay the fine I received. I appreciate and thank Ridernation for all of their support, but I would much rather you donate to Geroy Simon's Coats For Kids initiative. Click on the button below to donate, all donations will be presented to Geroy before the October 12th home game against Edmonton. Much love to my supporters in Ridernation, Darian Durant

That's a pretty classy move by Durant to not only redirect donations to charity, but to send them towards a teammate's charity rather than his own efforts. The frustration he showed responding to Twitter criticism's understandable, but his response was rather over the line, and the league's fine of him was the right move. Durant's now making the right move himself, and hopefully something good will come out of this with increased attention drawn towards the impressive charity work Simon is doing.
