Shooting at weigh-in in Ireland leaves one dead, two injured

A BoxNation show in Dublin Ireland scheduled for Saturday headlined by Gary Corcoran against Danny Butler has been canceled after gunfire erupted at a weigh-in that left one dead and two hospitalized with injuries.

Video was captured of the chilling scene as gunshots can be heard off camera. The gunmen were not seen in the footage.

According to the Twitter account belonging to Mick McCaffrey of UTV Ireland, the shooting is alleged to be gang related and the target was predetermined.

A 32-year-old man, David Byrne, who is said to be “in charge of logistics for Kinihan cartel's drugs shipments,” was killed.

McCaffrey tweeted that three gunmen were involved.

A story about the Kinahan mob, led by 59-year-old Christy Kinahan, was recently published by The Herald and discussed the mob’s connections with boxing.

“Daniel (son of Kinahan) is heavily involved in the promotion of boxing events, runs his own gym, and is a close pal of professional boxer Matthew Macklin, who has no involvement in crime,” Ken Foy wrote.

No arrests have been made.
