Back in October, a proposed showdown between “Showtime” Shawn Porter and Keith “One Time” Thurman had the boxing community buzzing. A pair of young, rising stars squaring off against one another was something Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions hadn’t necessarily been known for.

To its credit, PBC has done an excellent job keeping boxing fans busy with a slew of fights. However, there has been criticism regarding the lopsided matchups that often feature a rising star or an established name facing a faded opponent who carries just enough name recognition for fight fans to tune in.

Porter-Thurman would have different, much like the highly entertaining August grudge match between Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares.

But since word about the proposed fight began circulating, nothing has been cemented. A December date fell off the map and was replaced by a possible January one. But here we are in the first week of December and nothing has been announced.

For their part, Shawn Porter and his father and trainer, Kenny Porter, have been very vocal about the fight happening. Both Porters have done many interviews suggesting that they initiated talks between the two parties after a proposed bout with Danny Garcia never came to fruition. Team Thurman has remained relatively quiet, with the only sign of a possible fight occurring during the Mayweather-Berto fight week when both fighters did numerous interviews proclaiming their interest in making the fight happen.

As we close the book on 2015, no date has been set and there is concern from Team Porter that Thurman may be having second thoughts on taking the fight.

“If we get to the end of the year and nothing happens, we’re going to move on to something else,” Kenny Porter said in a recent interview. “Right now, unless he comes out saying that he wants to take the fight, we’ll have to assume that he’s not taking the fight.”

Kenny Porter said that he’s been reassured that Thurman would take the fight, but it appears the Porter camp isn’t interested in sitting around and waiting for a decision. Kenny Porter went on to say that there is another plan in place if the Thurman fight doesn’t happen.

Could it be that Thurman is really having second thoughts, or would the blame go to Haymon for being hesitant to put two of his brightest stars in the ring together.
