Canelo Alvarez, Amir Khan both hit 155 on nose, middleweight title fight is on

LAS VEGAS – The WBC's middleweight title will be contested at five pounds under the division's historic 160-pound limit, after champion Canelo Alvarez and challenger Amir Khan each hit the contract weight of 155 pounds on the nose in the plaza at T-Mobile Arena.

Khan, who has only fought four times above 140 pounds, looked massive and not at all fat. Alvarez was his usual in-shape self. Khan said he was pushed in training by Andre Ward and Andre Berto.

"It's a big challenge ... but I'm focused and 100 percent confident I can win this fight," he said.

For Alvarez, the challenge is to keep his mind on the task at hand and not let his attention drift to a potential title unification bout with Gennady Golovkin. Golovkin holds the WBA, IBF and interim WBC middleweight belts and has been chasing a bout with Alvarez for more than a year.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has mandated that the winner must fight Golovkin or be stripped of the title. Golovkin will be ringside for the fight.

Alvarez insisted he's prepared for the best version of Khan.

"I'm fighting a fast fighter and a fighter with a lot of experience," he said. "That's why I have prepared the way I have."
