Bernard Hopkins eyeing final fight

Bernard Hopkins may have his eyes set on the finish line after a storied 27-year career that saw him become the oldest boxer to ever win a world championship at the age of 49.

It appears that B-Hop is looking to end his career just after his 51st birthday on Jan. 15 and has his eyes already set on a potential opponent and a location.

“I’m looking to go somewhere in January, I guess before the Super Bowl at the Barclays Center, which has set aside a date for me and do my last one,” Hopkins said to Boxingscene.com. After insisting that this will be his last fight “win, lose or draw,” Hopkins revealed who his opponent may be for the target date of Jan. 30.

“My thing is I want to fight someone who is credible, someone you have to take honest,” Hopkins said. “Arthur Abraham has a gritty-type of style and I want it to be promoted as the last one.”

Abraham (43-4, 29 KOs) is the current WBO super middleweight champion who recently defended his title for the fifth consecutive time with a TKO stoppage of Robert Stieglitz in July. He has never competed at light heavyweight, where Hopkins has resided since 2006.

As for Hopkins – who carries a 55-7-2 record with 32 knockouts – the last time we saw him in the ring he was thoroughly dominated by Sergey Kovalev and lost his light heavyweight title.

The weight of the possible bout is anybody’s guess, but Hopkins said that he is waiting for the “I’s to be dotted and T’s to be crossed.”

We’ve all heard Hopkins’ plans for retirement before. But could this finally be it?
