Bills, NFL combine to donate $400K to mass shooting response efforts

The Buffalo Bills Foundation and NFL Foundation have each donated $200,000 to support response efforts for the racist mass shooting in the team's city last weekend, the organizations announced Wednesday.

A combined $200,000 will reportedly go to the Buffalo Together Community Response Fund, a fund established to address immediate and long-term needs in the community, including systemic issues for communities of color.

The other half will be donated to other nonprofits working on emergency response efforts for Buffalo's East Side residents, including partnerships with Buffalo Go Green, African Heritage Food Co-op, the Resource Council of WNY and UB Food Lab for home food deliveries.

The Bills' donations are part of an outpouring of support following the mass shooting at the Tops supermarket that claimed the lives of 10 people and wounded several others, in which the alleged attacker was reportedly found to have written a manifesto packed with violently racist statements.

The Bills' players have also gotten involved, with Bills Pro Bowl safety Micah Hyde raising more than $200,000 through his foundation with a charity softball game involving dozens of his teammates. The team, led by quarterback Josh Allen, also visited the memorial at Tops, leaving flowers.

The team said in its statement its donations are "just the beginning of the efforts of the Buffalo Bills," with more action in the days and weeks to come.
