Marouane Fellaini will cut his famous hair if Belgium wins World Cup

When Belgium midfielder Marouane Fellaini is on the pitch, he’s very easy to spot. His glorious dark flowing afro is noticeable during play. But if the Red Devils have their way in Brazil, we may be living through the final few weeks of one of soccer’s best hairdos.

Speaking to Belgian outlet Sporza, Fellaini said that should Belgium triumph in the World Cup Final on July 13 at the Maracana, he’ll cut off his famous locks.

“If we win the World Cup, I cut my hair off,” he said. “Am I sure? Yes, absolutely. We have a deal.”

This isn’t the first time Fellaini has wagered the future of his hairstyle on a big tournament. He has said in the past that if he ever wins the Champions League, the ‘fro will go. Unfortunately, the three clubs he’s played for during his career — Standard Liege, Everton and Manchester United — have not come close to winning the big prize for European clubs.

Dubbed “Screech” by his former teammates at Everton because of his resemblance to the “Saved by the Bell” character, Fellaini would be the second Barclays Premier League player in recent months to shed some hair after a big accomplishment.

Hull City’s Tom Huddlestone went over two years without cutting his hair, promising to get rid of the locks when he finally scored a goal. He went through a scoring drought from April 2011 to December 2013 before finally beating a goalkeeper. The haircut eventually helped raise over £35,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Hopefully whenever Fellaini decides to part with his afro he does something similar to Huddlestone, then that will leave his English look-a-like with a choice to make.
