Minnesota Lynx get 1st pick in WNBA draft

NEW YORK (AP)—The Minnesota Lynx will have the top pick in next year’s WNBA draft.

The Sacramento Monarchs, who finished with a league-low 12 wins this year, received the second pick in the draft lottery Thursday, followed by the Connecticut Sun, the Lynx again with the fourth pick, and the Chicago Sky.

Minnesota has two lottery picks because it received New York’s first-round selection in a three-team trade on May 5 that also involved Los Angeles. The No. 1 pick ended up being the one the Lynx got from the Liberty.

The remaining draft order is San Antonio, Washington, Tulsa, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

Seattle, Indiana and the Sparks round out the final first-round picks in the 13-team draft.

The draft date has not been announced.

the ny knicks and ny liberty are owned by cablevision the money hungry cable outfit in ny..both teams are run by james dolan who is the son of cablevision's charles dolan..the knicks will also end up with the first pick in the draft but they've already traded that pick 5 years ago in another one of their terrible trades..the liberty traded this first pick for a la spark bench warmer..i knew this trade would cum back to haunt the liberty...let's fire the blaze..ny deserves alot better than the incompetents they have running msg

so, zeph, the draft lottery was rigged to help the frickin' Clippers? You can't be serious. Why would the league want to help such a lousy team whose owner (Donald Sterling) is such a scumbag. Why would the league want to put this guy under the spotlight? Be objective, please. If it was rigged the NY Knicks would've probably won it. It amazes me how people are so quick to scream "rigged" when things don't go their way. Having the worst record doesn't necessarily mean you are going to get the #1 draft pick. There's a reason it's called "lottery". Dummy.

Sac Kings got done wrong by the NBA and now the Monarchs. Just got some str8t haters from these leagues. This ***** is rigged anyway..... We had the worst record in the league and did not get the #1 spot in the NBA and WNBA. It went to the Clippers and The Lynx. Its All about Money. LA Sparks received Candice Parker but they made sure they ended up with the #1 Pick. MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!!
