Canadian women win team silver at junior Pan Am gymnastics championships
ARACAJU, Brazil - Canada won the silver medal in the women's team event on Saturday at the junior Pan Am gymnastics championships.
The U.S., won the gold medal with 171.55 points, the Canadians followed at 156.95 and Brazil was third at 154.25. The Canadian team members were Dominique Pegg of Sarnia, Ont., Canadian junior all around champion Anysia Unick of Calgary and 2008 Canadian novice champion Madeline Gardiner of Cambridge, Ont.
The U.S., swept the medals in the individual all around standings with Kyla Ross first, Sabrina Vega second and Alexandra Raisman third. Pegg was sixth, Unick seventh and Gardiner 11th.
Unick qualified for all four individual finals: vault, floor, uneven bars and beam. Pegg reached three finals - vault, beam and floor. Pegg is the defending champion on vault.
The event finals are on Sunday.
