Serena Williams breaks WTA season prize money mark

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—Serena Williams has set the record for single-season prize money in women’s tennis by topping $6.5 million in 2009.

Williams broke the WTA mark of slightly under $5.5 million, earned by Justine Henin in 2007.

The American won the season-ending tour championships Sunday, beating older sister Venus in the final, and ends the year ranked No. 1. The younger Williams also won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2009.

Williams’ career prize money is now at a record $28.5 million.

Post #104---johnp. A funny and enlightening post. I have never thought that people actually worship a player. That would account for some postings. I esp. agree that "honoring" a player is at the heart of it. All players, every single one, who go out onto the court and participate and give it their best deserve honor. I congrat. every player who does that---including Maria S., who gets on my nerves. lol

I am neither black nor white, but detest bullies of all sizes, shapes, colors, religions and sexes. An "assault" can be committed by deeds or by words. The intention of a verbal assault is to humiliate and dehumanize the victim. When perpetrated by a wealthy celebrity, it takes the character of aggravated assault using superior force, because wealth and celebrity are weapons. Done in public... that is an aggravating circumstance. Done with world-wide media coverage... the aggravating circumstances are exponential.

Serena, her PR people, and apologists should be made to realize the gravity of her offense. By not addressing the victim by her human name, Serena's purported apology sought to make Serena real and human, while the victim's value as a human being was further degraded. It was actually a continuation of the assault.

Samson... You can do better than that honey... Those statements ARE NOT personal attacks. I have only made one comment with name about who a tennis player looks like, and it was a person NOT an animal. get it...

I don't necessarily have to put down another player to defend the Wms sister, so while you're going through my old post, please find five good ones where I wished bad on another player, compared their looks to an animal, dogged their parents, talked about their upbringing, called one unpatriotice...so on and so forth....you get the picture.

btw, if you read the Henin post and some previous comments with the comprehension of at least an 8 year old, you'd realize I wasn't doggin' Henin, but that I was addressing at least one rumor. With that being said, I'd NEVER crusade for anyone rich. I use my voice to speak for those who don't have one.

So...you have a wonderful life. Smooches....

Karim, YOU fuzz....You're NOT the typical anything! You are worse.

And yes...I called you out of your name because...well, YOU know why. That's reciprocal.
Anyhoo...I guess I could have made my thoughts clearer for you, but it's ok. I've moved on.
And you would move on? You will continue your crusade for Serena Williams in these forums. It was not I just picked on your "isolated post" and trampled on it. It was over everywhere.

"There is a big difference between commenting, criticizing, or 'getting on' someone versus making personal attacks."

"I don't like Henin's attitude on the court, when she saw Clisters win the US Open, Justin twinged a little with jeaIousy. But mostly, I also think Henin feels she's a better player than Clisters, so she could win Wimbledon especially since she's well-rested."

"Clisters father was the 1st person to publicly accuse Henin of 'juicing'. You can find articles in the Belgium newspapers via Google.
And, "rumors" of the possibility of Henin not being able to pass a drug test came about because she retired so abruptly and request to be taken out of the rankings immediately.
The press and commentators were "only" speculating because I haven't found any article which said she failed a drug test.
Has anyone found anything? If so, please post the link. Thanks…"

Who said that? How do you rate the comments? It falls into which category?

Your advertisement for the Williams is one thing. Your lunatic anxiety to snoop on anybody that is on Serena Williams' way is another matter. You really hope that it was not a "rumor".

It's people like you that make Serena Williams more dislikable. She did what she did.
And although rarely, she would apologize once in a while like her "isolated incident" (whether she was sincere or tried to avoid furthure penalty, it was not up to me to say ) at the U.S. Open.
But she did apologize, and it is people like you who keeps on attacking the other players and justify her action that makes her looks even worse.

I will move on and good luck to your crusade for Serena Williams.

SCOTT AND TERRY....Something you and others may want to know:

There are posters here that WORSHIP players. To them these players are on the same level with God. Here are some of their player's characterists:

    1. Has not ever done anything wrong
    2. Any issue where they fall short is excusable
    3. No other player is worthy to step on the same court
    4. Can beat any player that has ever existed
    5. Can beat tennis at tennis
    6. Can beat tennis before tennis was invented; may have invented tennis
    7. Possesses unmatched beauty
    8. Posseses unmatched strength and athletic ability

These posters almost always present the above as FACTS when they are merely OPINONS, SPECULATION, AND IN MOST CASES WISHFUL THINKING. This presentation gives the poster a great deal of satisfaction and self worth and peace. These posters form a strong bond with those of like mind and they constantly make posts that reinforce one another.

These posters could serve their favorite players much better in the eyes of others if they understood the difference between worshipping a player and honoring a player and presented them that way.

    Hope this was helpful. johnp.

Safina quit the tournament because she was scared to lose again to either Williams sister. This would have lowered her rankings for 2010. She would have looked like a fool again. She is over-rated. ven she knows she is not as good as either sister even on their decline. She is a scared loser. I wonder if she going to say they are jealous of her again?

well speaking about JUSTINE then going into some ridiculous statistical timeline about clijsters....very confusing.

and you're still wrong and still very delusional. gave it to her....haha! i swear some of you people cannot admit when she just gets beaten. she got beat, big deal. stop making crap up to justify your pathetic campaign.

that's like if i said when she beat justine in miami so easily, that justine just gave it to her. no i know she got beat. so why are you people such cowards to admit when she actually gets beaten? this,i find incredibly sad....apart from just general bias that goes on....all of you make up appalling conspiracies and excuses for her getting beaten.

again,it's a sport not some go*damn war. if a player i like is beaten i'm not going sit and dwell on it as if its the end of bleeding world. because you see,the excuses make you look like fools.

"....but to say that they are 10 times worse that what serena has ever said.....WRONG!!!..."
That is your opinion, and I have mine, and I stand by mine as I know you do yours. I don't feel like your opinion is WRONG...just different than mine. And, I thank God that MY opinion is the one that guides my mind, spirit, and soul.

'Have you already forgotton that she was face to face with someone half her size and 1/4 her weight and threatened her.....lol"

Of course not, who could forget? I listened to the clip of her rant over and over and over, and again, I'm sure my opinion of Serena's outburst differs from yours, so it's no need for me to go into that.

I've been gone all day, the weekly medical so I just read your posts and looked up your refs.
This would "my" answer to what you said.
You, Karen B, (and others, but I don't want to wantonly bring attention to them) WILL continue to tilt windmills until they crumble & fall and the light will be SO glaringly bright it will scorch anything less than pure of heart and spirit. Remember Rameses "So let it be written, so let it be done~"
Nothing or no one will ever stand between me and my God, my relationship to Him or "trying", in my most humble of ways, to impart nothing but love, support and light. I fail miserably, but am ever aware of just that and the battle of trying to do and be better. And I WILL stand up to anything!!!
And I'm positive you, Karen and others will as well. Our backbones are straight, our minds are strong and our resolve is deep.
I know, I for one, appreciate your scholarly approach to a very serious situation.
As I have always done, I will put on my "Armor" for Spiritual Warfare. I am not so naive as to think a tennis board is a safe haven, no place is a safe haven John~not from evil or the appearance of evil.
Thank you John. I hope others will indeed heed your words of advice~I'm sure the smart ones will~
On my way home I stopped at the market for a few things and did pick up a copy of this week's "People" magazine with Andre and Steffi on the front. HUGE headlines..They were selling like hot-cakes!!
I'll read the article later and comment.
