Gasquet faces cocaine-kiss hearing next week
BASEL, Switzerland (AP)—Tennis player Richard Gasquet will go before the highest court in sports Tuesday for what he says was a cocaine-tainted kiss in a nightclub.
The World Anti-Doping Agency and International Tennis Federation have asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland to ban him for one to two years.
Gasquet failed a drug test after pulling out injured from a tournament in Florida in March and was suspended. The Frenchman says his positive test resulted from a kiss he gave a woman.
An independent tribunal called by the ITF ruled he was not to blame. He was cleared to play again after serving just 2 1/2 months. A verdict by the top sports court is expected before the end of the year.

Didn't he see all of that white stuff all caked up on her lips? Maybe she told him it was bar salt from the rim of her glass(she was drinking tequila's?).
Maybe she had used it on the lips "down there"...?
I'm sorry, it's Sunday.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Performance enhancing is a non-issue or else we should forbid sportsmen to eat well, to sleep well, etc. The only problem are drugs which are harmful to the health. This issue should be handled not by sport bureaucrats but by sponsors, organizers, and by the paying public. It's an interesting challenge. How to address this difficult problem, difficult even to define, without robbing sportsmen of their comfort, privacy and dignity.
With so many, virtually all, top tennis players injured half of the time it is important to get rid of the arrogant bureaucrats, they are worse than drugs, they are the cancer on the body of sports, and of society in general.

B. Puerta had his carreer ended because his wife was taking a perscription med for a cold and he accidentally encountered a miniscule amount of it. The tribunal that threw him out of tennis admitted regretting doing so because he did not take the substance deliberately and it did not affect his performance. Career still dead though, despite the regrets.
C. Bloggers seem to get it, (A that is)

frankly, this is something that I don't understand. why would cocaine deserve a 2-year ban? I mean, I know its illegal... but I would consider it a performance deterring drug. so advantage to the opponent. also, unlike Martina Hingis, who retired upon the news of a positive test, Gasquet states the didn't take coke - so I'm on his side until the stupid doping agency claims that he's full of bullcrap.
I understand why he would be suspended (maybe not for 2 years.. but long).. but I think it deserves a suspension (1-3 months is rather long especially in the tennis world, and he sure as hell won't do it again.. if he did it) and a fine. other than that... nothing else needs to be done.
