In a fit of frustration on Wednesday night, Sao Paulo striker Fernandinho delivered a quick (and incredibly easy) death blow to the corner flag during the first half of his side's 0-0 draw against Vasco da Gama. Instead of showing him a yellow card for his destructive little tantrum, referee Carlos Simon instead made Fernandinho go back and try to fix what he did.
According to Globo, after the match, Fernandinho admitted he was just upset about losing the ball and said that he thanked Simon for charging at him, because had he not, he wouldn't have done the right thing and fixed the flag.
See? Referees aren't just enforcers of the rules and occasional makers of infuriating mistakes. Sometimes they also hand out life lessons. Like sitcom dads or drunk hobos.
