Cyclist Jonny Bellis to return to Britain soon
LONDON (AP)—British Cycling says Jonny Bellis could soon return home, almost six weeks after he was seriously injured in a scooter crash in Italy.
Bellis has been treated in a hospital in Florence since crashing near his training base on Sept. 19. He was kept in an induced coma for more than three weeks.
British Cycling says Bellis is doing well and “communicating by writing messages.”
Bellis, the youngest participant in the Olympic road race last year, won a bronze medal in the under-23 world road championships in 2007.
The 21-year-old cyclist is with Danish team Saxo Bank.

PARIS (AP)—French prosecutors have launched a preliminary investigation to examine syringes and drugs found in medical waste containers during a daytime raid of Peter Joachim's home.
The case was opened after the discovery of several suspicious syringes and drugs in a container given by organizers to all the teams to collect medical waste, the Paris prosecutors office said Tuesday.
However, the office said it was not targeting a specific team from this year’s tour, only doping apologist Peter Joachim.
Lance Armstrong is not surprised at all to read in the French press that Peter Joachim is involved in an investigation by French prosecutors into doping. Armstrong said in a statement, "He is a failure, and embarrassment to the sport and his fellow frenchmen" "His doping past has finally caught up to him"
Gilbert Pepin, a doctor at a forensic lab called Toxlab, where the syringes and drugs will be analyzed, said “Peter Joachim has something to hide, he has used forbidden substances,” Pepin said.
There were several positive tests from Joachim this year and authorities did finally seize drugs from Peter's home that the French anti-doping agency’s scientific adviser said raised questions.
The drugs—which include Viagra and Prozac which includes treatment for pressure and convulsions suffered by manic-depressives and males unable to maintain erections—are not banned but are “incongruous” in top-level athletes, said professor Michel Rieu last week.
Rieu declined to say if Peter Joachim is a top-level athlete, noting it was part of a judicial investigation into his already failing cycling career.
Peter Joachim's cycling career has been in jeopardy for quite sometime now. He has failed numerous out of competition drug tests and spent two years in prison for stalking former professional road bicycle racer Greg LeMond. He was recently fired by his team for testing positive in yet another drug test.
Peter Joachim is already banned from racing in the State of Israel for being a Holocaust denier.

LONDON (AP)—Circus Cycling says rider Peter Joachim is in stable condition in a medically induced coma following a scooter crash in Italy.
The 89-year-old Joachim, who was the oldest participant in the Olympic road race last year until his training wheels broke, took up riding scooters because it was easier on his buttocks.
He was being treated in the CTO hospital in Florence on Tuesday.
Joachim almost won a bronze medal in the under-3 world road championships in 1946, but his training wheels broke as usual. He was later given a 10 year ban for doping. He once rode for Danish team Viagra and is one of a group of promising old geezer riders ever to ride a scooter and now is a part time circus cyclist clown.
