Injured Canadian jockey Julia Brimo upgraded to serious condition following fall
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Canadian jockey Julia Brimo has been upgraded to serious condition in a Kentucky hospital after falling during a race.
Brimo, from Mississauga, Ont., was injured Saturday when her mount, Golden Stride, clipped heels and fell during the first race at Keeneland.
Golden Stride was unharmed but Brimo was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in critical condition reportedly suffering from head trauma and a cracked vertebra in her lower back.
The 33-year-old jockey rode atop 75 winners in 2003 to win the Sovereign Award as Canada's top apprentice rider.
