Undefeated Zenyatta works out for Breeders’ Cup

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP)—Undefeated Zenyatta completed a six-furlong workout at Hollywood Park in preparation for the Breeders’ Cup next week.

The 5-year-old mare covered the distance in 1:12.40 under regular rider Mike Smith on the artificial Cushion Track surface Saturday.

Trainer John Shirreffs said Zenyatta ran well and he will sit down with owners Jerry and Ann Moss to decide whether she’ll start in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic against the boys or defend her title in the $2 million Ladies’ Classic.

Zenyatta is undefeated in 13 starts and would face males for the first time in the 1-mile Classic on Nov. 7 at Santa Anita.

Across town in Arcadia, Belmont and Travers winner Summer Bird ran five furlongs in 59.40 seconds. Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird galloped two miles and was scheduled to run five furlongs Monday. Both horses are entered in the Classic.

RA is the best this year she had already beat the BOYS who suppose to be top contenders.
Zenyatta did'nt want any parts of RA.
Year ago i was told if Colt looked a filly in the eye she would stop running.
The last three the boys are all punks.

For the yahoo reporters, the Classic is not 1 mile, it's a 1 1/4 mile race. Who makes this reports? Dummysss

Thomas R. I made those comments about Sea The Stars about a month ago before Sea The Stars was retired. I am agreed about your comment about RA. As for Careless Jewell, it is a good horse, but you may be right, but we'll see.

I don't know, I saw Careless Jewel race at Delaware Park earlier this summer, and I thought she looked good then. We'll see. As for RA, her owner hates Polytrack, and has made that dislike abundantly clear to everyone. We will get to see the mare run in the BC- just not this year, that's all. When the race returns to Churchill Downs next fall, there won't be anything keeping RA from running- unless of course, she gets hurt or sick. Time will tell..... does anyone know how Lentenor did in his debut on Saturday?? Just curious.

Hey Spock, Sea the starrs is retired now. RA is the best horse this year, and Zenyatta can't touch her. Careless Jewel is waaaaay overhyped!!!!!!!!

I wish that Rachel would have ran in the Distaff. It would be an interesting race between her and Careless Jewell. My money would be on Careless Jewel. Would like to see Zenyatta in the classic as I think she is good enough to take on any horse.

Zenyatta might have a hard time in the Distaff, if Careless Jewel shows up and is on her game.

If Sea The Stars is in the BC Classic, there's no way you will see Zenyatta anywhere near the BC Classic.
