Your Sum Man wins American Grand National Hurdle
FAR HILLS, N.J. (AP)—Your Sum Man scored a 3 3/4 -length victory over fellow Irish bred General Ledger in the $250,000 American Grand National Hurdle at the Far Hills races on Saturday.
Your Sum Man covered the two-and-five-eighths mile steeplechase over a yielding course in 5:39.8 in winning his first start in the United States. Ross Geraghty was aboard for trainer Tom Voss as the 7-year-old got only his second win in 10 starts over jumps. Taxing Ruling finished third.
There was no wagering at the 88th annual renewal of the charity event that supports Somerset Medical Center.
Red Letter Day set the early pace with General Ledger close behind. Your Sum Man closed in the late stages.
The Eclipse picture is wide open this year. Your Sum Man is the fifth horse to win a Grade 1 steeplechase. The final and potential deciding remaining race is the Colonial Cup in Camden, S.C. on Nov. 21.
