Athlete Biography

Not only has Reed developed into one of the most successful individual riders in the history of USA Cycling, she also has earned plenty of success on the team front, both at home and around the world. Reed is headed to her third straight Olympics as part of the women’s team pursuit squad that includes Dotsie Bausch, Sarah Hammer and Lauren Tamayo. Reed, Bausch and Hammer earned a silver medal at the 2011 world championships in that same event. While she is one of the more seasoned Olympic veterans on this year's U.S. roster, Reed finally hopes for some success at that level after she finished 10th in the individual sprint at the 2004 Summer Games and seventh in the match sprint in Beijing in 2008. Though racing in her second consecutive Olympics was a major accomplishment for Reed in 2008, the highlight that same season came when she became the first American woman to win a world championship in the keirin. A 14-time national champion, Reed won gold in the keirin at the 2007 Pan American Games. She also is a former junior national champion in the match sprint and the 2-kilometer pursuit.
