- A long-distance specialist, Davies won a bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finishing in 14:45.95 - a British and European record.
- Davies won bronze medals in the 1500m freestyle in the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia and the 2005 World Championships in Montreal.
- He won a gold medal in the 1500m freestyle and a bronze in the 400m freestyle while racing for Wales at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
