Seimone Augustus Biography

Though Augustus was among the final cuts from the 2010 world championship team, it would have been hard to imagine USA Basketball leaving her off the Olympic roster. She finished eighth in both MVP voting and the scoring race for the 2011 WNBA season, averaging 16.2 points, but was even better in the playoffs as Minnesota won its first championship. Augustus was the finals MVP as the Lynx pulled off a three-game sweep of Atlanta, averaging 24.7 points on 58.7 percent shooting with 5.7 rebounds and a team-high 4.7 assists. That performance might have been a big enough statement to get her back on the Olympic squad after she was a key contributor for the gold-medal winning team in Beijing, where she scored 7.9 points per game off the bench. The No. 1 overall pick of the 2006 draft and former Rookie of the Year, Augustus made the All-Star team in her first two WNBA seasons - averaging around 22 points in both - but didn't get back on one until 2011. Augustus is an excellent shooter, having hit 41.7 percent from 3-point range last season and 86.5 at the free-throw line for her career. The Baton Rouge native became a star at LSU, where she led the Tigers to three Final Fours and was a two-time consensus National Player of the Year.
