  • Deakes powers through heat for world title

    Australia's world-record holder Nathan Deakes came through the longest and most grueling contest of the world championships to win gold in the men's 50-kilometer walk on Saturday morning. Drenched in sweat and the contents of the many bottles of water he had poured over his head in an attempt to keep cool, the 30-year-old crossed the line in Nagai Stadium after three hours, 43 minutes and 53 seconds.   • Spotakova upsets Germany's Big 2 in the javelin

    Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic opened with a 66.40 meter javelin throw, besting that mark on her third try for 67.07 meters. The Czech national record was enough to beat Germans Christina Obergfoll and Steffi Nerius for the gold. (WCSN, WCSN.com)

  • Petitclerc wins wheelchair 1500-meter

  • Sebrle has personal best javelin throw in decathlon

    On his way to winning his first world title in the decathlon, Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic posted a personal best javelin throw of 71.18 meters. In the end, Sebrle's 8,676 points just beat the 8,644 tally put up by Maurice Smith who set a Jamaican national record. (WCSN, WCSN.com)

  • US women win 4x100 title

    The United States held off Jamaica in a thrilling finish to win the women's 4x100-meter relay at the world championships on Saturday. The American quartet of Lauryn Williams, Allyson Felix, Mikele Barber and Torri Edwards tore around the Nagai stadium track in 41.98 seconds to pip the Jamaicans by little more than the thickness of a vest.
