The Caps have an unusual early season problem: They've discovered that they're not very good at holding leads late in games.

It happened again Monday night as the Caps couldn't hang onto a two-goal lead in the third period at Ottawa, and the Senators won 4-3 in overtime.

The Caps held a 25-15 lead in shots after two periods and dominated en route to a 3-1 lead, but the Senators then got 22 of the final 25 shots.

Once again, the Caps took some bad third-period penalties. The penalty problems have been driving coach Bruce Boudreau crazy.

The biggest thing that championship teams know how to do is close out opponents. The Caps will have to see if they can do better, starting with Wednesday's game against the Sabres.
