New Canucks general manager Mike Gillis finally delivered the bold stroke he promised when taking over from Dave Nonis more than two months ago, making a two-year, $20-million offer to lure ex-Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin as a free agent.

Unfortunately for Canucks fans waiting for big changes, the team is no further ahead after Sundin essentially told Gillis—and the three other team that made firm offers for his services—thanks but no thanks, saying he needed more time to decide if his future even included playing in the NHL, let alone for what team.

"Unfortunately, I am simply not close to being ready to make a decision about resuming my career at this time," Sundin said in a statement released through his agent.
