With Phil Kessel and Jonas Gustavsson in the lineup, the Toronto Maple Leafs are starting to show big improvement. Kessel scored his first goal with Toronto and Gustavsson made 35 saves to lead the Maple Leafs to a 5-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. After a dreadful start to the season, things have started to turn around for the Maple Leafs.

For a team that has made the Stanley Cup final twice the past two years and won it once, the Red Wings seem to have an awful time trying to subdue the Maple Leafs.

Toronto, which has missed the playoffs four straight years, spoiled Detroit's home opener and Cup banner raising ceremony a year ago with a one-goal victory at Joe Louis Arena and won a 5-4 shootout game with a watered down roster at the end of the exhibition schedule.

Saturday's Hockey Hall of Fame Game in Toronto, where the Hall's 2009 inductees will be honored before the match, will be another chance for Detroit to put its Original Six rival in its place.

Detroit has won three straight, but the Leafs are coming off of Friday's 3-2 win over Carolina, just their second in 14 games.
