You look at a 4-0 loss in Edmonton and you figure the Coyotes just didn't show up and the Oilers controlled the play all night. It couldn't be further from the truth.

The Coyotes actually played a spirited first period. They carried the play and out-shot Edmonton, and enforcer Paul Bissonnette acquitted himself well in a fight designed to tilt the momentum.

Nothing doing. The Oilers scored three times on 11 first-period shots and got a little help when Matthew Lombardi's clearing attempt deflected off teammate David Schlemko and slipped past goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. Seven seconds later, Ales Hemsky turned a center-ice face-off into another tally and the Oilers had a 3-0 lead.

The Coyotes had plenty of chances.

It took only a few seconds for Sheldon Souray and Ales Hemsky to stun the Phoenix Coyotes. Souray and Hemsky scored a team-record 7 seconds apart, and Jeff Deslauriers made 36 saves for his first NHL shutout to lead the Edmonton Oilers over Phoenix 4-0 on Monday night. "It's always great when you can pop two quickly in like that," Oilers forward Ryan Potulny said.
