Hours after seeing Mike Knuble sign with the Washington Capitals for two years and $5.6 million—twice as much money as they were offering him—the Flyers added some grit at forward and some stability in goal with the signings of free agents Ian Laperriere and Brian Boucher.

Laperriere, a hard-nosed 35-year-old forward who can play center and right wing, signed a three-year deal worth $3.5 million. Boucher, 32, signed a two-year deal worth $1.85 million.

The two signings leave the Flyers about $2.3 million under the NHL salary cap and Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said he would like to add some scoring depth to make up for the 52 goals he lost in Knuble (27 goals) and Joffrey Lupul (25 goals).
