In extending their winning streak to a season-best four games, the Senators actually managed to squeeze some time off in a busy schedule.

Against the Capitals, they took the first two periods off.

The Senators were being outshot 25-15 and trailed 3-1 through 40 minutes before swarming the Caps 18-3 and scoring twice in the third to send the game into extra time. Mike Fisher won it in OT.

"It was like two different teams," coach Cory Clouston mused after his team scored three unanswered goals to upset the Caps. "I thought we came out real flat. ... I don't know if we gave them too much respect, but we were basically in a wait-and-see mode and you can't do that against those guys.

"There was hardly a bad shift in the third period."
