The New Jersey Devils started the free-agent shopping season Tuesday by re-signing forward Jay Pandolfo and defenseman Bryce Salvador. Back to the future.
That's where the Devils went on the opening day of the NHL's free agent period.
They went back to 1995, the first of the three championship teams, and signed free agents Brian Rolston and Bobby Holik.
As far as the more-recent past, they kept veterans Jay Pandolfo and Bryce Salvador via long-term deals and also kept youngsters David Clarkson and Barry Tallackson.
It was a busy day for Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello, who also bid farewell to another significant part of the club's past as Sergei Brylin was allowed to leave after neither side exercised an option year.
Rolston, a 1991 Jersey draftee, had offers from some 17 clubs but gives the Devils a much-needed offensive presence, especially on the power play. ...More |
