The Blue Jackets continue to play as if Ken Hitchcock is not their coach.

The defense-minded Hitchcock watched his Blue Jackets lose 7-4 to the Rangers on Monday in Madison Square Garden, the sixth time in 22 games this season the Jackets have allowed six goals or more.

The Blue Jackets' 3.46 goals-against average is 28th in the NHL, better only than bottom-feeders Carolina (3.54) and Toronto (3.64). Last season, the Blue Jackets were ninth in the NHL, allowing 2.72 goals per game.

Two key figures have been the biggest part of the problem. Captain Rick Nash had a minus-4 rating vs. the Rangers and is minus-11 for the season. Goaltender Steve Mason, who won the Calder Trophy and finished second for the Vezina Trophy last season, has a woeful .885 save...
