The Hurricanes need to win a road game simply to put this string of setbacks away from home out of their mind.

They've played 11 road games without winning this season. And on top of that, the defeat Monday night at Dallas snapped a five-game points streak overall.

The Hurricanes were beginning to show signs that they might be able to make something of the season. In order to do that, they must gain victories in games in which they stay close and essentially play even with an opponent.

That was the case with the game against Dallas. For a road game, it was a decent performance, but players didn't come through with a play to make a difference.

They have serious ground to make up, and some of that is going to have to come on the road.

The Carolina Hurricanes sent defenseman Bryan Rodney back to their AHL affiliate in Albany. The team made the move Friday after bringing him up Nov. 11.
