NHL - Sports Rumors

“MarcBoston Bruins center Marc Savard(notes) has missed fourteen games in a row with a broken foot and isn't likely to play tonight against the Buffalo Sabres, but the Bruins are ready to throw a bunch of cash at him, anyway, to extend his contract, according to the Boston Herald.

The deal for the 32-year-old is supposedly for seven years and $39 million. That's $5.7 million a year for those of you keeping score at home. He reportedly could have signed an extension worth $6.5 million a year, but that was only for three years.

He supposedly will be back in action on Monday against the St. Louis Blues: "I feel great out there. You've got to put in your time, though," Savard said. "You've got to skate a couple of times. I'd love to be playing ... but I've got to wait a bit."

Getting hurt was the best career move Savard could've done to up his value to the Bruins. He gets hurt, and the offense goes to poop, especially the power play, where he is at his best. With Lucic already back and Savard on the way, this will add the necessary stability to the Bruins' lines, and they should start playing like the legit Cup contenders they are. Defensively and goaltending wise, they have been good, but now at full strength, time for the offense to step it up.

Will Peter Chiarelli have the fortitude to sign Savard for such a length and price with such a tight cap ?

Pyros, everything I have read/heard up here, it's pretty much a done deal. I think with some of the guaranteed $$ being spread over the course of the contract, it will work under the cap.

Its about time Savie has turned into a solid two way player we all knew he could put up the points but im glad to see that the knock on his defense can no longer be talked about congrats to him if they do sign him i just wish management would have kept around a great role player like Stephan Yell because they could have had him back for cheap money and hes a guy that knows what it takes to win a championship and that can help your team almost as much as putting points on the score sheet anyway i hope they can make a good run at it this year after years of disappointment HERE WE GO BRUINS HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't think Begin is doing a better job the Yelle? Hasn't Carolina dropped him already?
Great news for B's fans if this happens. Keep that core of centers rolling for years to come.. its a beautiful thing.
