Thornton didn't take a shift after the second period of the Sharks' 3-2 preseason loss at Vancouver on Thursday night.
Advice: "His groin has been bothering him a little bit, and was sore tonight, so we didn't think it would be wise to play him in the third," new Sharks coach Todd McLellan said of Thornton. "We'll give him a couple of days before we play again. I'm sure he'll be fine. If it were a regular season or playoff game, certainly he's playing through it." Thornton had 29 goals and 96 points in 82 regular-season games in 2007-08.
