Stars Team Report
INSIDE SHOTS
Brenden Morrow’s(notes) left eye was swollen and bluish late Monday night. The Stars captain earned it when he tussled with Carolina’s Tim Gleason(notes) just 25 seconds into the game. The fight obviously got the crowd going. But it also got the Stars motivated, and they fed off that motivation the rest of the night.
Morrow still might be trying to find his scoring touch, but he has never had a problem figuring out how to lead the Stars. His team-first attitude has served him well his whole career, and it’s what earned him the “C” a few seasons ago.
With the Stars trying to find consistency and the rare two-game winning streak, especially at home, Morrow did exactly what was necessary—he took a few jabs to give his team a jolt.
“It starts with Brenden Morrow and his effect,” center Steve Ott(notes) said. “It’s easy for the rest of us to jump on his coattails after that. He definitely leads by example.”
That black and blue will be gone in a few days. Fortunately for the Stars, his leadership won’t.
“He showed a lot of leadership for us tonight,” coach Marc Crawford said. “He does the right things.”
Stars 2, Hurricanes 0: Marty Turco(notes) stopped all 22 shots he saw, saving his best for a critical time. Carolina had 1:38 of 5-on-3 time in the third period, and Turco made two huge saves en route to the shutout victory.
NOTES, QUOTES
• Monday marked the Stars’ 1,400th regular-season victory in franchise history. Of those, 642 have come since the team moved to Dallas in 1993.
• The Stars improved to 9-1-1 at home against the Hurricanes. The last time the Stars lost to them in Dallas was Feb. 11, 1996, when they were still the Hartford Whalers.
Quote To Note: “You need your goaltender to be your best penalty killer in a situation like that, and Marty was.”—Coach Marc Crawford on Marty Turco, who came up big when Carolina had a long 5-on-3.

Looked to me like a couple of shots hit the cross bar. I don't know that it's time to give up on them in the shootout just yet.
And Turco obviously had his confidence shaken last year and confidence is a lot of stopping the puck in a 1 on 1 situation. To me, he's improved every game and when he starts stringing some wins together, I think he'll stop the puck in OT again.

That was one thing I wasnt worried about this year, until now. Im liking Neal and Been in the shoot out, if the team could get there. If Auld can be consistent then Marty can relax a little and keep his fundamentals in tune, they could make a good tandem. Hopefully the kids stay healthy and acclimate quickly, Benn looks comfy and Ott is healthy, we needed him back desperately!

And then you get people yelling at other people cuz they didn't follow the offseason and don't even know that sydor and zubov are gone. They don't realize the comments were made months ago when these things probably hadn't happened yet. Can't wait for someone to flame me for my comments a few months down the road.
What ever happened to the stars being good at the shootout? I suggest they practice that. and PK too. brutal. If either one was half decent we would be 4-0-0.

When isn't this a number 1 priority for a NHL net minder? Brilliant.
Go Stars!

Turco better start hot or he ought to go. He may think he's better than he is. The Stars have let go of a lot of "back-ups" that are now starting for their teams.
give the new coach a chance and let's see what he does. With the injured troops coming back and some of the youngsters getting more ice time, the Stars could be poised for a good season and hopefully a post-season run.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!

While we as fans were pleased that Newy was brought into the Stars fold it still lefts sour note that Hully and Les were reassigned.
In my opinion the both of them did a good job with the exception of the Avery situation. Still the Stars were embarassed and that struck a chord with Tom Hicks.
Now the Stars will enter the 2009-10 season in unchartered territory by having a new coach, which no one has played for in the past.
Marc Crawford is the polar opposite of Dave Tippett but he still should be
given a chance. If he gets the Stars to the playoffs then he will be around
for awhile. If not then the fans will be looking for blood.
As for the Modano bashers, let him play out his final year.
He could have signed elsewhere a few years back, but he chose not to. Mike could of taken early retirement and given the Stars a salary cap hit, but he did not.
In a day where it is "show me the money" Mo has been dedicated
his professional life to Club that he started with. That in itself is commedable because so
few pro athletes do that these days.

I am glad they got rid of Tippett. He's a good coach but only got to the Conference Finals ONCE in 5 years. It's the head coaches job to have them motivated for the game. 3/4 of the time the Stars never showed up to play. Crawford has won a Cup and he's a hardass and that's what the Stars need.

The key to next season starts and and quite possibly ends with Brendan Morrow.
