CBCSports.ca senior reporter Tim Wharnsby names the top performers in the NHL from Tuesday night.
FIRST STAR: Jose Theodore(notes), Washington
Alexander Ovechkin scored twice for the Capitals in Tuesday’s 4-2 victory over Philadelphia, Nicklas Backstrom(notes) chipped in a goal and three assists and Alexander Semin(notes) registered a pair of helpers. But Theodore stole the show in net, stopping 41 shots to lead Washington to its fifth win in a row.
SECOND STAR: Pavel Datsyuk(notes), Detroit
The Red Wings star scored twice in the third period and added an earlier assist to help Detroit overcome a 2-0 deficit and record their first road win this season with a 5-4 win over Vancouver.
THIRD STAR: Craig Anderson(notes), Colorado
In goal for his 12th consecutive game, the Avalanche netminder extended his club record for wins in the month of October to nine. He made 25 saves in Colorado’s 3-0 victory on the road against Edmonton and earned his second shutout of the young season.
