Iginla heads Hockey Night’s 3 stars
CBCSports.ca senior reporter Tim Wharnsby names the top performers in the NHL from the weekend.
FIRST STAR: Jarome Iginla(notes), RW, Calgary Flames.
Iginla fired in his ninth career hat trick in the Flames’ 5-2 win in Los Angeles on Saturday. The victory allowed Calgary to bounce back from a 7-1 loss at home to Chicago on Thursday.
SECOND STAR: Filip Kuba(notes), D, Ottawa Senators.
Kuba scored his first of the season and chipped in three assists in Ottawa’s 5-3 win at home against Buffalo on Saturday. The Senators have won three in a row and have scored 14 goals during the streak.
THIRD STAR: Brad Richards(notes), C, Dallas Stars.
Richards checked in with four assists in the Stars’ 5-3 victory at home against New Jersey on Saturday. He now has 20 on the season, a total that ties him for third spot in the league with Washington’s Mike Green(notes) and Toronto’s Tomas Kaberle(notes). San Jose centre Joe Thornton(notes) leads with 25 assists, followed by Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf(notes) at 22.
