Sabres call up G Enroth to fill in for Lalime

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP)—The Buffalo Sabres have called up goaltender Jhonas (YO-nis) Enroth from the minors to fill in after backup Patrick Lalime(notes) hurt his groin.

The move was announced Wednesday prior to Buffalo’s home game against the New York Islanders. Coach Lindy Ruff said Lalime is day to day after he was hurt in practice earlier this week.

Enroth was Buffalo’s second-round pick in the 2006 draft. The Swede has gotten off to a slow start in his second American Hockey League season with Portland, Maine. He’s 3-7 with a 3.9 goals-against average in 10 games.

He was previously called up by the Sabres last February, but did not appear in an NHL game.

As a Season ticket holder for the Portland Pirates I have watched Enroth all last season and this season. Its not all his fault it has a lot to do with the D and Gragnani has been out. He is still growing as a goalie and not everyone is a Steve Mason..

When Biron left Buffalo, I don't think he was happy with the backup role he had. I think now, that the Sabres management's judgment has been confirmed by Biron's inability to attain a starters position at Philadelphia or the Islanders, he is ready to be content as a backup.

Perhaps, by the end of the season the Sabres may be able to pick him up; however, he may fall victum of the "Lalime syndrome". That is, the Sabres will play sloppy, unfocused hockey and subject him to an unreasonable amout of trafic in front of the net with little or no support from his team mates.

how can you trash the sabres draft picks when tyler myers looks to be one of the next great defensemen?? Sabres always think high risk high rewards first... hopefully myers ends up as the next chara or pronger. Miller was also a sabres draft pick, what a bust he's turned out to be huh david M

We should have paid the extra money and signed Martin Biron again. It would have been worth the extra wins he would provide the team. Lalime is so bad, that the team around him plays like crap when he's in the net. They know they dont stand a chance of winning with him, so they have a "give up" attitude. I can tell by the players performance who's in net without even seeing him. When Miller's in, they play with much more confidence. They know they have a chance and can take more risks. With Lalime, they just skate around and hope they dont get ambarrassed too much.

We need to find a real back-up!! And its not always the goaltenders fault. When your team sucks you can't expect to have a goalie stand on his head game after game. It gets old and tiring!

We had better hope that Lalime gets better soon and Miller stays healthy - Enroth isn't even a good minor league goaltender. He is another failed high draft pick for the Sabres.
