Russia beats Czechs 4-3 to clinch Karjala Cup

HELSINKI (AP)—Russia won the four-nation Karjala Cup on Sunday after Alexei Morozov scored in overtime to clinch a 4-3 victory over the Czech Republic.

The win puts Russia out of reach of Finland, which routed Sweden 7-0 in the late game Sunday.

The Czechs led 2-0 with early goals from Jan Bulis(notes) and Pavel Brendl, but Russia equalized through Oleg Saprykin(notes) and Sergei Mozyakin in the second period. Danis Zaripov gave Russia a 3-2 lead in the third, before Jaroslav Bednar equalized with less than five minutes left.

Russia had already beat Finland 4-3 in a shootout and Sweden 4-1.

Former Florida Panthers player Ville Peltonen(notes) scored two goals and assisted on three others as Finland crushed rival Sweden at Hartwall Arena.

Jarkko Immonen(notes) scored twice to become the top scorer of the tournament with four goals and an assist, ahead of Morozov (3-2) and Peltonen (2-3). Jukka Voutilainen, Janne Niskala(notes) and Antti Pihlstrom(notes) also scored for Finland.
