Anytime an incident like this occurs why does the NHL think its ok for a guy who commits the act gets a game or two or five and can go back out there and do it again? Send a message to these players and suspend them for as long as the injured player is out for. If he never plays again then neither does the player that commited the infraction. I was PO'ed when jones only got, what was it again? 2 games for the hit on Bergeron? 2 games!! Bergeron is lucky to even be playing again. I am not saying take hitting out of the game. I would never say that cause i wouldn't watch hockey if they did that. i've got quite a few games in at a fairly high level - i don't know if anybody goes knee-on-knee on purpose - you are just as likely to damage yourself as the other guy - laraque does what he does and i'm not a big fan, but he's a SD and that's what they do ... muck it up out there - it's difficult to assess a fair punishment ... it's rarely going to be equal - the big punishment on bertuzzi changed his game ... i don't think the little ones have much effect

I am a habs fan,and all I have to say is be careful what you wish for. After, Lucic ran wild against us in that boston game,the next game he didn't want anything to do with Larague! Without him in the lineup against teams like the bruins, flyers and leafs, the Lucic's of the world will put a smackdown on our small forewards. We have no one in Hamilton that can take or stand up to Lucic.

As a Wings fan, I'm admittedly biased. I have always disliked goon or enforcers in hockey. The college game and the international game is more real hockey than the goons game of the NHL. Artistry with the puck is unknown to guys lkie Laraque. The NHL should eliminate the idea of "finishing the check" which is the time where the goons needlessly throw their weight around. When that happens, then goons will be useless and no longer in the game. That's how to get rid of them and reduce injuries ten fold. Now you know.

I like the suspend the coach too part in # 16. At least Laraque got 5. That's nothing compared to what the Wings lost. The fine is pathic as the player.

Why not suspend the player and his coach for the length of time the injured player is out ?
The team pays the goon to fight & injure whoever the coach points his finger at. Why isn't the team responsible too ? Hide your all stars, here come the goonies. They are all a disgrace to the game. Is this what we pay $50 a ticket to see ?

Montreal's leading scorer on defense should be suspended, not Laraque. Laraque is worthless it won't hurt Montreal one bit.

It is very simple, if a player is guilty of intent to injure and the injury causes a player to miss games, the guilty player will miss the same amount of games the injured player misses (and if a player is injured badly enough that he never plays again, the guilty player is done - period), and any additional fine and suspension the leagues sees fit to extend beyond the initial suspension. If you want to end this kind of play, make the above the rule.
