Puck Daddy - NHL

Owen Nolan(notes) of the Minnesota Wild will turn 38 years old next February. Keep that in mind as you watch one of the better individual efforts we've seen from a goal-scorer this season, as Nolan goes coast-to-coast and finishes with style against the Tampa Bay Lightning:

That was sixth-year pro David Hale(notes) that Nolan undressed with that move at the blueline, before toppling to the ice and clanging the puck home past Antero Niittymaki(notes). It was Nolan's fourth of the season and 410th of his career, one behind Bill Guerin(notes) for seventh among active players.

Alas, the Wild blew a one-goal lead on a Ryan Malone(notes) goal with 14.7 seconds left in regulation and then lost in the shootout to the Bolts for a 4-3 defeat. The Wild do move one point ahead of the Ducks in the race for the Western Conference basement, so they have that going for them. Which is nice.

    Looks a little like Ovy.
Ironically, Ovy claims Nolan as his favorite NHL player when he was young.

Just got home from this game and it was a sick goal!
(glad the Lightning pulled out the win though. In a shoot out! Who knew?)

Wysh, doesn't this also give you the opportunity to repost Nolan's greatest goal ever from the 1997 All Star Game off Dominik Hasek?

hey greg, that forbes list shows there's only about 15 or 16 teams that aren't completely relying on permanent welfare checks to exist. what's the point of having 30 teams if only half of them make a profit? do the others count as NHL advertisements? i seriously don't get it. if we got rid of them the league would be so much better.

Shame he didn't call the corner before he scored like he did in the all-star game.

I still think his "called shot" in the ASG is truly iconic. Mainly because it was in a Sharks uni, but this goal is purty close.

Awesome goal. Not only is he going to be 38 but he had to miss two full seasons following re-constructive knee surgery. His 25 goals last season (in less than 60 games I think) was his best season since 2000. That mick's a true warrior (oh, and before the PC police arrest me, I'm Irish). Gary Roberts may be gone, but at least Nolan's still around...

    @ Wysh : A couple of things.
    1) If you could put up video of the Brad May-Rick Rypien fight that would be great. Speaking of old guys who still give'r...look no further than Brad May.
    2) From now on PLEASE qualify your "best of" lists. For example, "the best saves since the start of the 2000-01 NHL season". I realize that seems ridiculous but inevitably some great threads get hijacked and simply end up with people arguing over when a decade starts and ends. Every list, every time, without fail.

still so devastated we lost a game we really deserved to win. lightening capitalized off two mistakes and then the wild took a dump in the last minute of the 3rd.
