The Green Men of Vancouver, those body-suited jesters of the opponents' penalty box at GM Place, struck again on Saturday night as the Vancouver Canucks hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs. If you thought their manic mime routine against the Nashville Predators or impressive upside-down taunting of Jack Johnson(notes) of the Los Angeles Kings was hilarious, then you haven't seen their Eggos.
Please recall the recent peculiarity in Toronto, as a 27-year-old construction worker threw waffles on the ice after the Leafs' loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, protesting the team's lackluster play this season (and, well, every season).
The stunt caused a brief sensation, and it wasn't lost on the Green Men. When Leafs forward Tim Brent(notes) took a goalie interference penalty 4 minutes into the game ... well, just watch:
This isn't the first time they've dabbled in prop comedy; witness this classic use of a Vince Vaughn cutout to taunt Dustin Byfuglien(notes), then of the Chicago Blackhawks:
National treasures, those two. Check out the Green Men fan page for more, and this Vancouver Sun article on their origins. Stick-tap to Puck Buddy Mike for the tip.
