If you haven't seen Ottawa Senators' defenseman Andy Sutton's(notes) hit on Pittsburgh Penguins' blueliner Jordan Leopold(notes) near the end of the first period of the Penguins' 2-1 series evening victory, here it is:
Solid hockey hit. Elbow was tucked and Leopold had his head down. Leopold didn't return to the game and will be further evaluated tomorrow. Sutton was not penalized on the play.
In this era of questioning every single ugly looking hit, there was some wonder if supplemental discipline would be in order for Sutton. Penguins' forward Mike Rupp believed it was a suspendable offense, while teammate Brooks Orpik(notes) thought it was just a case of an opponent playing hard. According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, however, the NHL and Colin Campbell don't agree and Sutton will not face any punishment.
Sutton will likely be muzzled after this back and forth exchange with Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, who asked if he knew his elbow had gotten up and hit Leopold in the head:
The reporter should have asked Sutton if he knew who had two elbows and was an "expert" and then responded with "this guy".
