If there's one thing you don't want to do, it's anger the hockey gods. They are a fickle bunch that will lay their hands down and smote thee who dare disrupt the time-honored traditions of The Game.

The Vancouver Province is currently skating on thin ice with said hockey gods.

Yesterday, the morning after the Canucks swept the St. Louis Blues to become the first team to advance to the second round, the Province's hockey blog, The White Towel, asked fans to begin sending them the best Stanley Cup parade route.

Keep in mind, this is a franchise that's advanced past the first-round only three out of the past 13 seasons. I understand there's some excitement in British Columbia, but really? Confidence much?

Fans are encouraged to use Google maps to create their parade route and the most creative ones will be shown on The White Towel's page and the paper will "give them a print nod in Province Sports." Worth pissing off those hockey gods 'Nuck fans?

New York Rangers fans, not impressed with some Vancouver writers jumping the gun on a Cup parade, created their own route:

Jumping the gun about winning isn't all that unusual in hockey of late. Please recall early Eastern Conference Champions gear for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Stanley Cup Champions Detroit Red Wings merch before their series even ended. Not to mention NHL.com goofing and releasing the Hart Trophy winner on a T-shirt.

In regards to the Penguins and Red Wings gear, both of those situations worked out and no egg was placed on faces; but if the Canucks don't end up winning the Stanley Cup in June, you can be sure Vancouver fans will blame The White Towel for bringing the jinx.

haha i knew it wouldnt be long till some Rangers fan made a comment of that nature ...no offense Canucks fans...congrats you are a solid team and look promising to compete with some of the best for Lord Stanley but its only nearing the end of Round 1/start of round 2 and Lord Stanley isnt handed out till the first/second week of June. Whats next? if ya win the West are they gonna insist the Canucks carry the Clarence Campbell bowl around the arena in a lil pre-Stanley preparation? Or maybe have Luongo and a few of the Canucks pose holding the Cup before they've won it?

You ought to hear all the Detroit fans saying that the Wings names should just be engraved on the Cup now. I'm pretty sure the Hockey Gods don't like that. The Wings haven't even advanced past the 1st round yet.

While they're not exactly "engraved," the Wings' names already ARE on the Cup; numerous times, actually.

What's so bad about that? We are merely planning a parade route if we happen to win the stanley cup. We got 10 days off and nothing to talk about for gods sake. Yahoo! Sports is just ashamed by the stupid prediction they made regarding the canucks series so all they want to write about is negativity towards the nux. On the other hand, we dont give a $hit about what you americans who never watch westcoast hockey think anyways.

I'm all for trash-talk with your opponents and ridiculous in-series predictions, but I do not like this kind of ridiculousness after only the first round. As a Canucks fan I am very unimpressed with The Province for this. We've had 39 years of misery (Rangers fans are apparently quick to forget their own 54 year drought, but then again I suppose a Blueshirts fan is about the last person I should expect to be sympathetic to anyone other than himself) - Canucks fans should not do anything that will increase the chances of this streak becoming 40 years.

The canucks sweep the blues and they think they're winning the cup? HA The blues gave them that series with lack of offense and defense and just didn't bring the same game they did in the 2nd half of the season so don't get too cocky over that win. They might b able to get to the 3rd round cuz of Luongo but definitely not to the finals.
