Here are your Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• BREAKING: "According to Hockeycentral @ Noon's Nick Kypreos, The NHLPA has shut down its operations, including the suspension of responsibilities for interim Executive Director, Ian Penny." [Fan 590]
• Along with Sean Avery(notes), Marian Gaborik(notes) is out for the New York Rangers tonight, spoiling his return to face the Minnesota Wild. Although his being injured is, in a way, a fitting tribute to his time there. [Russo]
• From the Toronto Star: The Hockey Hall of Fame is haunted by a 19-year-old woman named Dorothy, who shot herself inside the building over 50 years ago. This story goes into the her history, offers eyewitness accounts of encounters with the spirit and is generally creepy (outside of the ridiculous lead photo). Great: Someone else who managed to become part of the Hockey Hall of Fame before Dino Ciccarelli. [Toronto Star]
• Versus: Where record ratings don't necessarily mean record viewership. [Puck The Media]
• Very interesting talk about pro sports in Las Vegas, as plans for a 20,000-seat downtown arena are going to be seriously vetted in the near future, according to Mayor Oscar Goodman. What does that mean for hockey? Goodman said, "Basketball has moved along more quickly than hockey." Gary Bettman (Bettam in the article, hilariously) is high on Vegas and has no problem with the gambling aspect; David Stern did have concerns, but his owners don't. Interesting stuff. [Las Vegas Sun]
• Fantastic piece on Dustin Penner(notes), the Edmonton Oilers winger who is having a career resurgence after residing in the dog house for most of this time with the franchise. This does not make Craig MacTavish look all that smart. And goodness, can there be anymore salt placed inside Brian Burke's wounds this season? [Edmonton Journal]
• The Onion thinks Detroit Red Wings fans are morons. [The Onion, H/T MTL_Wings]
• Ray Ratto writes a column on the San Jose Sharks that could have been shortened to "nobody knows nuthin' until the playoffs arrive." Although we do enjoy his line: "Their overarching plot line is, 'How will they take the pipe in the postseason?' but the postseason is still 23 weeks away." Take the pipe ... wow. [San Fran Chron]
• More on the head-shot debate: "The check Philadelphia's Mike Richards(notes) threw on Florida's David Booth(notes) was the perfect example of what's wrong with the thinking dragging down the NHL." [Sun Media]
• You know, come to think of it, why the hell wasn't Colton Orr(notes) suspended for shoving an official this week? [THN]
• Good stuff on Patrice Bergeron's(notes) return to form for the Boston Bruins. Now, when are the Bruins going to return to form, exactly? [Boston Herald]
• In praise of the Phoenix Coyotes and their red-hot start this season. JovoCop was a beast against the Blues last night. [Study of Sports]
• Mirtle completes his in-depth look at the Nashville Predators market: "If the question is, 'should the NHL have gone to Nashville in the first place?', I'd likely have to answer, no, that this would be a healthier league at 24 or 26 teams." And the Predators would have a healthier market had they won a playoff series in the last 11 years. Winning in the playoffs, legitimately challenging for the Cup ... all the promotion in the world can't compare to they way that grows a market. That's the bottom line. [From The Rink]
• Hilarious: The president of the Junior Steelheads in Idaho is having to explain to people that it wasn't his team but the similarly named Idaho Junior Steelheads that are being investigated by police for playing "naked shootout" at a local rink. [Statesman]
• We were rightfully chastised in the Three Stars post for not mentioning Andrew Rayrcoft stopping 30 of 31 shots in the win over the Los Angeles Kings last night. Here are some props from Zandberg. [Nucks Misconduct]

• From Chris DeVivo of the Pittsburgh Penguins Game Ops, via Twitter: "Don't let Alyonka [Larionov] pick out her own wardrobe for Penguins Show."
• Joining Sidney Crosby(notes) as hockey players running the Olympic torch to Vancouver? That would be Vancouver Canucks great Trevor Linden(notes). No word on any other active players taking part in the torch relay. Or if the NHL would insure them. [NHL]
• Stevie Y says the Team Canada Olympic roster is taking shape. You know who wasn't at orientation camp? Steven "9 Goals" Stamkos. Wonder how, or if, that plays out. [LeBrun]
• We usually find ourselves in agreement with Steven Ovadia, but did anyone really call Stamkos a bust last season? Underwhelming, not living up to the hype, sure; but a bust? [Puck Update]
• Are we in the process of witnessing something special for the Buffalo Sabres? [Die By The Blade]
• In praise of Lou Lamoriello. [The Hockey Writers]
• Mark your calendars: Wild Nation will be live-blogging the Minnesota Wild vs. New York Rangers game this evening, with Blake Benzel joined by Wild bloggers Ms. Conduct and Denis Gorman. [Wild Nation]
• Whoa: "Due to H1N1 and the high incidence of flu-like symptoms, Sault Major Hockey Association has cancelled all AA, BB, and House League games and practices for Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday." [SooToday.com, and what up with the photo?]
• Finally, The Pensblog has released its second commercial for the season, and it's pretty damn hilarious.

Despite his good play, I doubt we'll see Stamkos on the Canadian team. Perhaps as part of their three player "in case someone get's hurt" squad. Centre is just so deep, I don't see how he'll sneak on unless he does this for another two months at least.

Think it would behoove the NHL to realign the divisions and conferences so that the newer/relocated teams like Pheonix and Nashville can make the playoffs, develop rivialries with each other, and those of the more established teams like the original six, pittsburgh, buffalo, et all are maintained. you know sort of like 67?
Alyonka is 9.7 on the baberichter scale.

I'm sure you are on this Wysh, but WTF does shutting down operations mean?

2. Hope noone actually is scared off from the ghost of Dorothy - keep in mind that 3/4 of the HHOF isn't inside the old bank bulding, but the basement of the shopping mall next door. The bank, however, holds all the good stuff (the Cup and all the awards trophies).
3. Alyonka must be trying out for the next Twilight film, eh?

They need that support to survive.

It's always been about corporate support in Nashville, and the lack of it. A winning hockey team, with some buzz, is naturally going to attract more of it.
I just don't believe you can say "winning cannot fix what is happening in Nashville" when in fact they've never won.

Common sense should have predicted the struggles of teams like Nashville.

Nashville could sell 2,000 more seats a game all season, get six or seven home playoff dates, and still come up well short of breaking even without revenue sharing. Run the numbers. The league has progressed beyond the point where small Southern teams can turn a profit, regardless of how full the building is.
My point is that it's okay they're getting revenue sharing. That's the only solution for having them in the league. With 30 teams, there are going to be many, many clubs that never experience long playoff runs. If that's the basis for teams folding or not, there will be a lot of failures.
I think we need to be more realistic with markets like Nashville and cut them some slack on revenue sharing.
