Puck Daddy - NHL

If Wysh will allow me my own impromptu "I hate my [expletive deleted] fantasy team", I'd like to do so by thanking Marty Turco and his abysmal start for totally derailing the "Inflatable Soulmates" in the early going.

With a goals-against average of 4.70 and a save percentage of .814 through five games, Turco and the Dallas Stars are failing to meet their high expectations early on this season -- and leaving me toiling at the bottom of the standings.

Saturday's 5-4 loss to Colorado was the second consecutive game that Turco had allowed five goals and third time he's done so this season. Over the past two seasons, Dave Tippett has given Turco a week's vacation whenever he's struggled.  Does he plan on doing so anytime soon?  Probably not, reports The Dallas Morning News' Mike Heika:

And while coach Dave Tippett said he thought about pulling Turco in the game, he has no intentions of giving the goalie a vacation.

"There are a lot of things that go through your head, but in the end Marty is going to have to be our guy, and he's going to have to work through this." Tippett said. "We need him to be a good player for us if we're going to be a good team, and his game is not going to improve sitting on the bench."

Turco said he did not want a break and that he needed to work through his problems. "I just need to do whatever it takes to stop the puck," Turco said. "We've been down that road before. The best way I can be a leader for this team is to build a wall for them and give them confidence, whether they need it or not. That's pretty much all I have to do."

Through five games, Turco has been more of a sieve than anything resembling a wall.

On the bright side for Dallas, they are getting contributions from two of their young stars in Fabian Brunnstrom and James Neal, who have combined for six of the Stars' 16 goals so far.

Could it be, as Tracey Meyers of the Star-Telegram suggests, that the upcoming three-game road trip to the New York metropolitan area is exactly what the Stars need?

They'll return home next Saturday to take on the Washington Capitals, but four days away from home -- keeping it in their heads that they were a controversial call on Brendan Morrow's goal away from tying the game -- and being around each other could help right the ship.

This might sound crazy, what with the incredible record he's posted in his six seasons in Dallas, but does another month of struggles put Tippett on the hot seat?

He may have led them to the Western Conference finals last year, but before that, Dallas had been ousted in the first-round three straight years. In this age of "What have you done for me lately?", could Brett Hull and Les Jackson have an itchy trigger finger despite giving Tippett an extension through 2010-11 over the summer?

I never thought Turco was that good of a goalie. He is hit or miss. Anyway, judging by their start, I don't think Dallas is going to be the power house everyone thought.

I think we have this season's first "photoshop a beach ball behind a goalie" opportunity.

Maybe Turco should play middle linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs.
We know he can't play in Detroit. This year, so far, it's everywhere.

He's in good company across the league - maybe the pad shrinkage really has made an impact, as seems like there've been a lot of high scoring games so far even without seeing much sharpness to the play.
Teams are gonna be in the preseason mentality for another 2 weeks.

Not to worry he'll turn it around. If anything now is a good time to see if his owner in your league is panicing and will trade him for far less than his true value. Last year I was able to convince one friend of mine to trade his slow-start-Kipper for my Hasek...a little later I picked up a struggling Brodeur for a red hot Biron. Normaly these friends of mine wouldn't be considered mentally challenged but due to slow starts they panicked and I ended up having the most dominate goalie trio in the league. (I drafted Luongo in my first round.) Of course I choked in the semi finals which is why I passionately hate fantasy sports...

"never that good of a goalie ???" ... "beach ball opportunity" ... what a pair of misinformed "fans" .. when marty pulls this team up to where it should be , it will be interesting to watch beer man and goalie chris jump on the bandwagon

I'm with you Larry G. Turco has these few game cremations once every season. Then like always, he gets his head straight and you get a Marty Turco like you saw in last seasons playoff run. For one, I am HAPPY that he's having his hard time at the beginning of the season rather than a month before the playoffs like last season! My problem is the Stars D core. 1. 3 players in their sophomore seasons 2. Coming off a huge success in the post season 3. Lacking their mentor (Zubov) 4. a rough preseason and season start. In my eyes, at least half of Marty's 4.whatever GAA is due to the D not working to clear the crease or keeping their sticks on the ice!

Plus, a beach ball p-shop on any goalie is funny stuff. Google: Dan Cloutier

The season has barely started you can't already count them out to be a power house. They played this bad at the beginning of last season. They have a lot of new and young talent that just needs to learn how to mesh together. I thought taking morrow off the Ribiero line gave a good new look. I bet they sweep this road trip, forcing everybody to quit counting them out so early in the season. Besides if you didn't take notice from last year we prefer to fly under the radar.

Turco lives and dies by the sword. He's been falling on his sword quite a bit lately.

Marty Turco will get over this he will over come this rough patch he is going through and the Stars will come out on top. I think it is very smart of him to deny going on vacation however if this does put Tippet in the hot seat then WTG Marty he needs to get the hell out of town. GO STARS!! MARTY IS STILL MY WALL

Many top goalies are struggling right now. In the case of Kippersoff, its his team's steadfast refusal to play decent defense. Not sure about Turco.

Turco needs someone better than Tobias Stephan backing him up. Like Tippett would ever give that guy more than one start a month.
And I already dumped Budaj from my fantasy team and picked up Ty Conklin as a #3 goalie. Even with him only playing like 30 games, he might give me better stats.

its the same thing every year... Turcs has a few bad games then finds "himself" and the rest is history. Im just glad he's getting it out of the way early instead of last year which ended up costing us the top spot.
At the end of the day (not to sound cliche) its a team sport.
to all of you (and you know who you are) SUCKED IN!! But you'll get the last laugh as Turcs WILL get better as time goes on.
