Just as Vancouver Canucks forward David Booth(notes) was finally finding himself within the lineup after coming over in a trade with the Florida Panthers in October, he'll be absent from the lineup for at least the next month.
During Tuesday nights 6-0 rout of the Colorado Avalanche, Booth suffered an MCL sprain in his right knee after colliding with Kevin Porter(notes). According to the Canucks, Booth will be out of action for 4-6 weeks.
Here's the hit:
Porter was given a five-minute major for kneeing and a game misconduct.
After the game, Porter explained himself to the Denver Post's Mike Chambers:
"I felt I was leading into the hit, and he tried to make a move around me . . . We hit knee-on-knee and he took the worst of it. I hope he's alright."
There's been no word on whether or not Porter will have a hearing with the NHL, but more likely than not he'll be chatting with Brendan Shanahan(notes) before the Avs' next game on Thursday night.
UPDATE: TSN's Bob McKenzie reports Porter will have a hearing on Thursday.
