NFL - Sports Rumors

“VinceTennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young(notes) has had some kind of weird season. After being benched for most of last season, he got to watch his team suffer through six straight losses to start the season behind quarterback Kerry Collins(notes). Supposedly, after much pressure from owner Bud Adams head coach Jeff Fisher finally said that he would put Young in as the starter. Fisher must be burning inside right now because Young has led the Titans to four straight victories.

The most improbable win came Monday night when the Titans were underdogs to the Houston Texans and came out with a 20-17 victory. There's a photo now circulating that appears to show "impartial" NFL ref Jerome Boger high-fiving Young after the game, according to the New York Post.

The NFL is denying it, of course. Here's the statement from the league: "It was not Jerome Boger's intent to exchange a high-five with the player. It began with the referee making the proper administrative signal and resulted in the appearance of an inappropriate action. As Vince Young took a knee on the game's final play, Jerome Boger jogged in with his right arm in the air to signify the play was over. That is the proper administrative signal for the referee. As Young turned around, he saw Boger approaching the line of scrimmage with his arm raised. As Boger moved toward the line of scrimmage, he started to bring his arm down. However, before he lowered his arm, Young, moving towards the referee, raised his own arm and the two exchanged what appeared to be a quick high-five."

    VY is a proven winner.
his passing stats might look ugly at times, but he wins game with his multi-dimensional skills.
jeff fisher is an idiot for keeping him on the bench for that long or the titans might be in the playoff picture. bud adams should coach the team.
as far as im concerned, kerry collins is a draft bust who has never been good. the fact that he is still collecting a paycheck playing football is a miracle.

I mean is it really that big of a deal? Even if Jerome did shake his hand I thought the game was managed pretty good. Hell after all the turmoil Vince Young has been through he deserves a high five after four straight wins lol.

Sorry, but Jerome Boger is an incompetent official to begin with. He exposed his bias several times in that game. How can you in good conscious allow a penalty to stand when Brian Cushing touches Vince Young going out of bounds and a horse collar penalty on a tackle of Chris Johnson late in the game. There were others that were questionable. I'm waiting for the day when the head coaches can throw a red flag on the official making a bad penalty call and it can be reviewed to prove the official made a bad call. Of course that would never happen beccause the league doesn't want their officials to be exposed as incompetent. But, it's the only way to get it right and if you can't get it right then what's the point. Vince Young high fiving the official just goes to show how a reaaly stupid official can allow himself to be manipulated by a player. I'm sure he and Vince had a lot of love goin on.

The resurrection of Vince Young. Even the Houston coach should high five him. This is a good story for football. The NFL's version of events seems like a cover up though. I'm not buying the accidental high five excuse.

But when you look at the picture, people are usually smiling or showing sings of happiness during a high five. The ref looks stoic and doesn't appear to be sharing in Young's jubilation.

Hmmmm. Kerry Collins sucks? Almost 39,000 passing yds, an NFC championship game and a Superbowl appearance. I mean, sure, he never won the big game, but to say he sucks is irrelevant. Remember, he did lead Tennessee to the best record last year. Vince Young did have mental breakdown last year and wasn't fit to use a stove, let along lead a football team.
    Now! It his time.

If a referee was making calls in favor of one team in a game, do you really think he would be dumb enough to openly high-five one of the players on that team on the field? C'mon!!

Stupid. I saw the play live and it was obvious the official was simply making the signal and Young ran to him and high-fived him. I can't believe such discussion has been made over something as clear as day.

Okay...Golden Eagle...You are officially an idiot!!!!
Did you really just say that Kerry Collins is a draft bust??? That guy has Super Bowl rings from when he played with NY. I will admit that Young played a nice game on Monday night but, you cannot take anything away from a guy who has had a great career like Kerry Collins. He has been a solid player in the NFL for a long time.

kerry collins has one of the lowest completion percentage out of the starting quarterbacks. check his career stats, he is very mediocre it's not even funny. he is a game manager, but he's worse than jeff garcia at it. he's lucky enough to be on a few good teams. the guy was supposed to flame out and fade into the sunset as a career backup after the giants released him, but he was lucky enough that those in front of him constantly got injured or play poorly. contemporary journeyman quarterbacks like jeff garcia, brian griese, jake plummer, jon kitna, billy volek, kelly holcomb, mark brunell, and gus frerotte are all comparable or better than him. all of them are either retired or flamed out. brunell, kitna, and volek are backups who haven't seen live action for 2-3 years.
i don't understand why an aging mediocre quarterback like kerry collins is still being considered as a starting option.
btw, he lost in the super bowl to the ravens.

I agree Kerry Collins is not a bust at all. He does a have a Super Bowl ring and led Tennessee too ( a very unexpected ) 13-3 record overall. I still think that besides the bull**** horse collar penalty on Chris Johnson that the officials did a decent job. Kris Brown's kick was absolutely awful though lol, kind of reminded me of Ray Finkles kick in Ace Ventura lol.
