Browns want Accorsi back as GM

Ernie Accorsi has retired from pro football. He served as general manager for the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants. And the Browns want him back. Rumor has it they want him back pretty badly, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Head coach Eric Mangini is supposedly very into the idea of working with Accorsi as well. But if Accorsi doesn't want to give up the chances for (though unlikely reality of) Sunday-afternoon dozes in the Barcalounger to help fix the ailing Browns, the team would at least like to have help make the decision on who the next GM should be.

He was apparently consulted before the team hired the toothless George Kokinis and had nice things to say about the fella who was once the pro personnel director of the Baltimore Ravens.

Still, that wouldn't have been Accorsi's choice for the job. That honor goes to New York Giants director of pro personnel David Gettleman.

The coach is weak but smart. Both the previous coaches stunk it up the season after signing an extension. They both gat to keep all their money. This coach is trying to get canned asap so he can keep the money without earning it. A three year, 8 figure contract for less than a year's worth of crappy work. Only in America (Cleveland). I think they should have Butch, Romeo, and Eric cleaning the staph out of the facility since they're still being paid.

So, Mangini is into working with Acorsi as well? What a shocker! If Lerner told Mangini that Hitler was still alive and being considered for the position I'm sure he'd be on board with that too.
Mangidiot knows he's on a short leash now and he'd better do what the (clueless) master wants.

My question is why does anyone in Cleveland think that any quality coaching candidate would even consider going to the Browns? Ownership is horrible and the team is horrible. Fans are die-hard and deserve more than Lerner can ever hope to deliver.

Wrong cromeo112... Learner is a hands-off owner with deep pockets who wants to find a capable GM he can give the reins to and allow that person to run the organization. The team is a mess but it's a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a body of work that they can put their stamp on.
You yourself said the fans are die hard.
The rest of you Browns-bashers on this subject can blo me.

I agree that learner could have made a better choice of coaches and should of went with Gruden and also as smart as Kosar was in the day at reading defenses when he played why not make him the offensive co-ordinator?, everyone talks about how bad the offense is so why doesn't Brian Dabol's name ever come up when putting blame with an ineffective offense?

Even though I'd clean house (except for Rob Ryan), you really can't put the blame on Brian Daboll. The players are just not putting forth any effort.

mister ss - Dabol is a part of the problem. Mangini is a defensive coach turned HC. He should have hired an experienced person for the OC position - not a rookie like Dabol.

Don't let Bernie be the GM, he can't even manage his own money. Do something to make us Steeler fans worry. Hiring Bernie to do anything but the pressbox is a joke. Of course, they might as well put him under center, he couldn't do worse than Anderson. How in the heck do you have a QB rating of 10?

Kosar, would make a pretty good offensive co-ordinator or QB coach. Good PR man, maybe an assistant GM
with specific duties but not the GM, no experience. There are some pretty good unemployed head coaches,
hire someone now so by the April draft & preseason the Browns can be a competitive team & score some points.
    I rather lose in a shoot-out, 42 - 38 than by 30-6.

Well, it worked out VERY VERY well for the ORIG BROWNS, aka the ravens. 4 years fater leaving that hell of Cleveland, they were champs. And For Bill...he coached the pats to how many SBs? Including the one RIGHT after the ravens. Move this team, that town doesn't have a clue how to do sports. Even the Cavs choke for Christ's sake!
