2011 NFL Week 4 Picks and Predictions: An NFL Fan’s Predictions
Week 4 NFL action is here and the league seems upside down and right side up. Not only are the typical last place teams making news…the dominant teams from the last several years are looking rather beatable. In fact, the Buffalo Bills came out and whipped the New England Patriots on a last second field goal in week three. I always thought that was the Patriots' specialty.
*This Carolina Panthers fan has not forgotten what they did to us in our Super Bowl appearance and we try to take stabs when we can.
After a red hot week three where I went 12-3, I came back down to earth this past week thanks to some very close games where my picks did not come through. (Hello Minnesota, Cincinnati, Philly, New England and Arizona)
The best part about picking NFL football games as a fan? Moving on to the next week on the schedule after a tough one. Let's move on to week 4 of NFL action.
SUN, OCT 2 - Week 4 NFL Games
Detroit at Dallas - 1:00 PM - Cowboys Stadium
Detroit finally got the monkey that is the Minnesota Vikings off their backs in a week three win but it wasn't easy. I picked the Vikings to upset them because I thought they might fold and Adrian Peterson would have a huge game. Peterson did but Detroit did not. The Lions are the real deal folks and the Cowboys are the next to find that out.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Detroit Lions
Carolina at Chicago - 1:00 PM - Soldier Field
The Panthers finally got a win and the weight of the world is off this fan's shoulders. If it makes me feel this much better, how much better is the organization and team feeling? Chicago just finished getting whipped by the Super Bowl winning Packers, a team that also beat the Panthers in week two. Both teams competed with the Packers, but the Panthers literally should have won their match up. In my opinion, the Bears are going to find out the Panthers are much better than they thought. Expect the Panthers to win in a minor upset.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Carolina Panthers
Buffalo at Cincinnati - 1:00 PM - Paul Brown Stadium
The Bills had best not let down against the Bengals. I can feel it coming and every fiber of my being feels a let down game here, but I simply can't pull the trigger. The Bills better not let me down.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Buffalo Bills
Tennessee at Cleveland - 1:00 PM - Cleveland Browns Stadium
This game is fascinating because I see both teams as being fairly similar. Cleveland is sitting at 2-1 but they still appear to be underachieving. Perhaps it is the annual moniker raising it's head again and just what we are accustomed to as NFL fans. The Titans are similar. This makes the game tough to pick, but I will take the Titans on the road because of the experience of Matt Hasselbeck(notes).
Week 4 NFL Winner - Tennessee Titans
Minnesota at Kansas City - 1:00 PM - Arrowhead Stadium
The Vikings and Chiefs both nearly got that big win in week three, but they came up short in the end. One thing is for sure, however. One of these two teams will actually get a win this week.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Minnesota Vikings
Washington at St. Louis - 1:00 PM - Edward Jones Dome
The Skins and the Rams are going to mix it up in the Jones Dome, and the Redskins should win it going away. The Rams had such high hopes coming into the 2011 season. It seems a shame that they are struggling so bad. I expect a turnaround but it will not be here.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Washington Redskins
New Orleans at Jacksonville - 1:00 PM - EverBank Field
The Jaguars have zero chances of winning this game. Period.
Week 4 NFL Winner - New Orleans Saints
Pittsburgh at Houston - 1:00 PM - Reliant Stadium
What at one time would have been an exciting matchup on paper now looks like a mismatch. That is until you consider that Pittsburgh is capable of playing great football at any moment. I think that Houston will still beat the Steelers. I can't see the old men keeping up with the Texans.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Houston Texans
San Francisco at Philadelphia - 1:00 PM - Lincoln Financial Field
The Eagles are seriously in jeapordy of blowing a potentially great season. I expect that they will get things in order, but the defense will have to lead the way.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Philadelphia Eagles
NY Giants at Arizona - 4:05 PM - U of Phoenix Stadium
The Giants won despite all indications that they would get their tails kicked. The Cardinals lost a game where all indications said they would win. This week they will switch spots.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Arizona Cardinals
Atlanta at Seattle - 4:05 PM - CenturyLink Field
The Falcons and the Seahawks should be a no-brainer blowout but Atlanta is trying their best to look like a team that is struggling. They will win the game, but they might make it kind of tough on themselves.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Atlanta Falcons
Miami at San Diego - 4:15 PM - Qualcomm Stadium
The Dolphins have yet to win a game and I see no reason to think that will change in San Diego. The Chargers have underwhelmed me thus far, but they should be able to handle the Dolphins with no problems.
Week 4 NFL Winner - San Diego Chargers
New England at Oakland - 4:15 PM - Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum
New England is facing yet another upstart team with something to prove in week four. Buffalo gave them their first loss and you can be sure that Oakland will be looking to try to do the same. I do not think Oakland will be able to do it, but I think they will put up a heck of a fight.
Week 4 NFL Winner - New England Patriots
Denver at Green Bay - 4:15 PM - Lambeau Field
Green Bay in a laugher.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Green Bay Packers
NY Jets at Baltimore - 8:20 PM - M&T Bank Stadium
This game is the most entertaining match up on paper and should go a very long ways towards determining who is going to be the bully in the AFC. I expect that Baltimore will hold serve at home.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Baltimore Ravens
MON, OCT 3 - Week 4 NFL Games
Indianapolis at Tampa Bay - 8:30 PM - Raymond James Stadium
The Colts come into this game with Tampa Bay with not much going for them. The Bucs are headed up in a big way after a huge home win against the Falcons. I expect the obvious to happen here.
Week 4 NFL Winner - Tampa Bay Bucs
Week Three Record - 10-6
Season Record to Date - 33-15
