Favre’s return to Green Bay draws big TV audience

NEW YORK (AP)—Brett Favre’s(notes) return to Green Bay was must-see viewing for NFL fans.

Fox’s national game Sunday, which was mainly the Vikings’ 38-26 win over the Packers, was the network’s second most-watched Sunday telecast since it started airing the NFL in 1994, with 29.8 million viewers. The record was 32.1 million for 49ers-Cowboys in 1995.

The game drew a 17.4 rating and 32 share, up 26 percent from the comparable window last year.

The rating is the percentage of households with televisions tuned to a program. The share is the percentage of homes watching among those with TVs in use at the time.

your franchise didnt want Favre wade remember that, however every other team damn near would be willing to take a legend. Rodgers could have sat on the bench another year or 2 and gave you a chance but low and behold you got rid of him, so stop crying about not having Favre and who has him now. Just focus on your team and how you are going to stop Rodgers from having a season ending or career ending injury because your O line seems to have forgotten what their job is!

Hey Cheezehead, you're the one who's drinking SOMETHING;if Brett Favre REALLY wanted to stay in Green Bay,he wouldn't have been hinting toward retirement going back to '05.the year they drafted Aaron Rodgers. What was TT supposed to do? Wait until Brett knew what he wanted to do,then draft a QB years after? Today's Packer fan must be easier to please than Tara Reid. You people talk about all these wonderful things Favre did for your team in 16 seasons, last time I checked, the Pack only won ONE SUPER BOWL in that time period.I don't need to hear about your "lean" years pre-Favre;EVERY NFL team goes through them(of course, some longer than others, right Lion fans?).No player, regardless of his previous accomplishments,is bigger than the team or the organization.Remember this,if Majkowski doesn't get injured,Favre doesn't see the field for maybe 3 or 4 years.Chew on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Just when I was having a little faith in humanity again, Nicco reminded me why some people really have no reason for being on this earth. They might as well get rid of all the comment sections on Yahoo if this is what it comes down to, little people hiding behind their computer.

After watching the Saints play the Falcons last night, I see that they are beatable. Atlanta could have won that game if they made no mistakes. As far as the Vikings go, if there's no serious injuries, I just see this team getting better and better. Packer's on the other hand need some help or serious changes made to defence. Is Ted Thompson still hiding in his closet?

hey idiots brett never quit on the pack, he made a clouded judgement decision at the end of the year when he was warn out, just like a night out and feeling like crap the next day and you think "i'm never drinking again" then what happens you wait a couple days and get back after it. If Brett hadn't been forced into a quick decision he would still be in green and gold and we would be winning the division, instead he's in purple and still winning the division. Get over it, we have garbage mngmnt and terrible play calling. Best of luck to Brett, because the Packers won't make the playoffs even with the terrible schedule they had this year.

Could people in Green Bay act any more like pathetic teenagers jilted by their first crush? You'd think there's nothing else to do in their lives but obsess over a football player, who is basically an entertainer. You still have your football team, enjoy it. There's other things in life to think about. Of course in Green Bay... maybe there isn't.

Brett Favre can play football. This doesn't diminish Aaron Rodgers. Both are good and all should be happy!

Paul, u seem way to bitter about something that does not really affect your life. its a game he is a player i do not mean to sound like a jerk or anything but get over it. what is done is done move on. Aaron Rogers is the key to a bright future for green bay, and favre is in the glorious past of great packers.

Split - Sadly I agree with you. If the Packer are knocked out of it, I will probably be cheering ( I hate to say it) for the Vikings. But I will also not be shocked when he throws a game changing interception that will lead to a lose in the playoff game. Unless it is against the Packers - I hope he proves me wrong.

CJ - since 2000 Favre was one of the least sacked QB's in the league. That just happens to coincide with the play of the two tackles Clifton and Tausher. There are only two seasons where Favre was sacked more then Rodgers in his first year. I agree that Rodgers needs to start throwing the ball away better when about to be sacked, but at least he is not just throwing it up for grabs.

i see brett's undeniable charm has blinded you. the fans did nothing but support brett while he waivered and later when he played with the jets. the problem lies with him sleeping with the enemy. i would have cheered for him in any situation Except if he played for the bears or the viqueens. and look what he did.

What in the name of god is wrong with Packer fans? The Packers organization OWED it to their fans to field the BEST team they could last year. That means Favre at QB. He did not come out of retirement to be a Jet. He WANTED to be a Packer. The team abandoned him...not the other way around. I could not be happier that he is excelling in MN after being sh|t on by Green Bay. Those fans that booed him have their heads so far up their a$$e$ that they need a plastic belly button to see with.

Brett Favre is clearly opne of the all time greats and he continues to prove it at 40 years old. He's simply a great quarterback. Maybe he did waffle too much about GB when he decided to retire. All right, he wafffled twice. Can't a guy who literally put his physical well being on the line for so many years get a little slack. Maybe his noggin was shaken a few too many times but I think he should have been cut some more slack.

So ok, GB's got to get on with their life and so they do, without Favre - well Favre was only going to last another year or two anyway and when you're building a team you've got to llok at the next 4- 5 years. So everyone should be happy. Favre got to play football and pulled the Jets out of the sewer and now he's leading Minn to their best year in anyone's memory. GB got their new quarterback - it was a win-win.

Favre by the way still has the zip in that arm of his - he can whip that ball as good as anyone around and he's got his accuracy. His handoff moves are the best in football - he's not having a problem except for his aching old bones which will give out this year or next. I'm really enjoying watching him play. Go Brett!

angelo, i completey agree. i just dont know if i can open my arms back to this selfish turn-coat. when brett had a pain killer problem; we were there and vikings fans laughed. when deanna had cancer, we were there and vikings said he deserved it.
does he really think he deserves my love anymore?

Farve is the right fit for the VIkes at the right time. I don't believe for a second he would be as good with this Packers team, however this Pack team has the potential to be a good team 1, 2, 3 years from now and be good for some time after that.

The Pack are young the Vikes are not. The Pack have almost no Pro Bowlers the Vikes have both lines (the guy's in the trenches where it counts) stacked with PBowlers, the VIkings keep Matt Birk and AD would have 2000 yards already. It's the O-Line and the D-line and the best player in the leauge that have Brett looking like he's 30 again and if he win's us a Super Bowl it's worth all of it:-).

One of these post talked about having watched Brett beat us over and over and this is payback that was the best comment of all, but Cheeseheads as we learned through many years of Brett torching us that payback is short lived and doesn't hurt nearly as much as you think. Go Vikes! Go Norris Division!
